Something that Skapan wrote in the other thread caught my attention. Can some of our brothers from Egej give us a summary on the villages in Egejska Makedonija that can be classified as pro-Macedonian and anti-Macedonian (grkomani, bugaromani, etc) and what is the breakdown. I vaguely know of an incident between the village of Buf and Rakovo, but my memory is hazy. I am looking forward to the responses.

Rakovo is very anti Macedonian from the accounts i heard, the village my family hails from is pretty much ,acedonia, only few people have inter married with avranite woman there.
There was like 2 Vlah families there who were not to be trusted, they would sit at the window and hope to catch people speaking Macedonian back in the days to report to the police, no wonder people were scared.

Me too, I have heard that Rakovo is Grkoman central.

Rakovo or Kratero/n has been called a "grkoman" village for a long time. Even from the early 1900's the village was a patriachist village. Even the "greek" andartes captain, Pavlos Rakovitis was from the village, although he was born into a macedonian speaking family.

Villages which could be considered pro-Macedonian in the lerinska okolija are Meliti/Ovcarani/Vostarani, Buf/Akritas, Dolno Klestino/Kato Kalliniki, Kotori and (gorno)/Kato and Ano Idraoussa, Kuckoveni/Perasma, Nered/Poliplatano, Banica/Vevi and Gornicevo/Kelli. All of these villages tend to be higher up in the hills/mountains that make up the lerinska okolija.

Rokol was burned to ground, twice.

When people have a choice to just be themselves in Diaspora MOST from the Lerin region choose to speak Macedonian over Greek ... even from Rokol.

Macedonian is their mother tongue, however, 90% go to Greek Orthodox Church's.

EVERY MACEDONIAN VILLAGE IN OCCUPIED GREECE HAS GRKOMANI, SOME WAY MORE THEN OTHERS.

I have an uncle over 80 who has not spoken to his brother in 60 years because of it and the first cousins have NEVER met.

Well said Alex, cant speak for all of Egej, but in Lerinsko even in the most pro Macedonian village can a grkoman arise, and likewise in a grkoman village, can rise a pro Macedonian, it all depends if a person\people can see through the athenian fog

What you are asking for is not possible to answer. Every village has both Grkomani and pro-macedonians. If we label a village as a grkoman village, we are probably basing our statement from the people of that village who are in Canada. That is not accurate, because for example I know a certain village where all its villagers are Grkomani in the diaspora, but in the actual village itself people are neutral. And then there are villages like Ovcharani, where it may seem very pro-macedonian, but Grkomani do exist.

This is not true, like I said you are probably basing this from the people in the diaspora. There are many grkomani in these villages, for example the mayor of Gornicevo is very pro-Greek. And I don't know if Buf should even be considered a village any more, it has only 20? people left.

I concur will the others on this matter. In the Aegean villages you have your hard Makedonsi, hard Gerkomani and the fence sitters who move between the two.

This is what you get when a peoples national identity is influenced by others and is not allowed to develop naturally.

What make no sense at all are all the Greek wanna be's (GRKOMANI) that speak Macedonian at home and then when they're in public they put on a big show .... in BROKEN GREEK.

GRKOMAN UNIVERSTITY = GRADE 6 PUBLIC SCHOOL

TPG, although what you say is correct to an extent most folks from Egej have a perception as to the state of a particular village, or at least whether the majority are grkomani or makedonci.

Can one of you chaps that know go over the story between Rakovo and Buf and what was the deal there?

Of course buf/akritas still counts a village. Last time i visited the village it had more than 20 inhabitants, maybe many have left since then. :question

The mayor from gornicevo/kelli is pro-greek, but what do you think would happen to him if he were to express feelings of united macedonia and macedonia in general, he would no longer be the mayor of gornicevo/kelli.

Also i was not basing what i wrote on encounters in the diaspora, but rather on visits to the lerin area.

Of course there are grkomani and pro-macedonians in many villages. but wasnt mlade asking users to tell him about the villages which can be considered pro or anti (the majority of the population).

Hey Red, why do you feel the need to write the Greek name of villages in every post?

He will get charged for tyranny. I think its worth mentioning that even the most patriotic Macedonians in Greece do not support separation to a united Macedonia. All Macedonians in Greece consider themselves to be more economically stable then the Republic of Macedonia, and for that reason they do not want to separate. The most these pro-macedonians want in Greece is basic human rights and education in their mother tongue within the Greek state. They do not want to separate or cause "trouble".
