Tito did a great job with that time machine that I had to show everyone, including our Bulgarian friends and sympathizers this nice letter to the NY Times. Enjoy everyone :toast

The argument Madoloff makes in the NY Times letter is undermined by Bulgaria's ruthless behaviour toward Macedonians.

Within the multicultural Yugoslav federation Macedonians were allowed to retain their ethnic identity, in Bulgaria they were assimilated.

I guess it's matter of opinion at that time Maknews. Maybe Madoloff had a beef with the Serbs during the balkan wars. The Serbs were very brutal at assimilating Macedonians too you know. They destroyed many centuries old monasteries and tortured women with branding irons on their genitals. The Serbs are no better at that time as the rest of the wolves.

Most of the Serb atrocities occurred prior to the formation of the Yugoslav Federation. After the Balkan Wars my grandmother's family settled in Canada with their new "ich" names, whereas, after WWII they no longer were forced to pretend to be Serbs.

But Bulgaria was just as atrocious in its mistreatment of Macedonians. It only supported the predavnitsi -- the ones who acquiesced to the propaganda and presented as Bulgarian. G'rkomani were equally well treated after Greece came into Aegean Macedonia.

The big picture here is that the Macedonians in Bulgaria were "vanished" by the "benevolent" Bulgarian government. The same in Greece, where the Macedonians were also "vanished".

Whereas the Macedonians in RoM live in an independent Macedonian state.

I don't disagree with the Bulgars brutal assimilation atrocities. However we cannot discount the Macedonians like Madoloff who saw the ethncities as seperate ,as opposed to being one and the same, and the feeling of a sort of brotherhood between Macedonians and Bulgarians. And the only reason why he feels this way is because he was a refugee during Turkish tyranny. I'm not giving the Bulgars a pass on anything Maknews. However it is the opinion of Madoloff. I especially like how he admits that there were many Macedonians in governmental offices as well :cuz

There still are many Macedonians in the Bulgarian government, to a man they are bugaromani.

Whereas, those Macedonians who still preserve their Macedonian ethnic heritage are hounded like dogs -- just look at how OMO-Ilinden Pirin and those who openly support it are treated in Bulgaria today.
