I'm interested in seeing and reading the different dialects of the Macedonian language. I thought maybe we can translate a couple of english sentences in our own dialects.

'Who stole your car? You need to go and report it at the Police station. I can't believe they stole your car in the middle of the day! Do you need a ride to work or back home? You should definitely call your parents and let them what happened. Don't worry if your dad will yell at you, he'll understand what happened.'

Tetovski/or my village (Vratnica) dialect translation
'Koi ti ga-ukral kolata? Trebes da ides u Milicajska stanica i da em kazes sto stanalo. Ne mozem da veruam deka ti gu ukrale kolota u srede dan. Ti trebe da ti odnesem na rabota al nazad doma? Obavezno, kolaj dzi roditeliti tvoi i kazi-em sto sa desilo. Nemoj da sa sekiras ako Tatkoti vika po tebe, on ce bide razbran u sto ti se desilo.'

Sorry, if this was a weak example of what to translate, it was the first thing that popped in my head.

If you look on a map Vratnica is located on Sar mountain right on the other side of Kosovo border, near Kacanik and Strpce. No, there never has been any Albo's in our villages. In the 1960's there used to be around 2000 villagers and over 1000 houses but since majority migrated to the States today there is around 100 people. For a village its the most popular in Tetovo. For the last 3 yrs they've brought in many Serbian and Croatian singers during the summer to sing outside in the village. The village is packed in the summer from all the Vratnicani that go back from the U.S.

MakaAus,

Ovja sto zboriv Srpski na stranicata mlogo se praev kako Srbi. Veli, ako sakas da bides Srbin mozes ipak da zboris Makedonski. A toi se praev pametni bostom. Nekoi u seloto zbori Srpski! Ovja sto znaev Srpski sto sa od Vratnica ziviv u Srbija pa za toa. Toa ti e politika, ima dva braca edan e Srbin drugi Makedonac. E, sea koi e u prav..koi znae?

I would say the Bitolski version written above is closer to the Lerinsko dialect that I know.
Lerinsi wouldn't say "mora" ... would say "treba".

pozdrav

Umm here is my 'Skopski'? lol although much of the villages around the city seem to have lost their dialects due to the standardised language taking over...

I saw the most similarities with Toska and Dejance version. Toska you said you're from Ohrid but where's Dejance from?

Never knew how different the dialects can be..very interesting.

Thanks to all you for participating!!!! :D

In Skopje we would say exactly like you said Dejance, so I have nothing to add.

Yeah...you could also say it in other ways too....including some words that i've noticed in other dialects in the topic 'sh(t)o ti se stori, sh(t)o ti se desi(lo), javi im se vednash, sret/d bel den...'

How old Dracevci would say (at least my drandfather)

" Abre, ti ja ukrale kolana? odi bre prijavi u policija. Ne veruvam koj umen se nasol da ja ukrade u sret belden. Sakas da te prevrlam doma ili na pabota? Kazi mu na tatkati so sesluci. Ne beri gajle (ne se sekiraj) ako ti vika,ke se izvika pa ke mu projde, galiba ke razbere deka ne si ti kriv!

This is an interesting insight into our language and i will put my head on the block the grammar/spelling may be wrong :)

LERINSKO MAKEDONSKO EZIK;

Koi ti go otkradi karro? Treba da odish da se raspravish kai politsjata. Ne vervam ti go otkradia karro na stred den! Ti treba da te krtsam do rabotata ili nazat doma? Treba da se raspravish na majkati i tatkoti za sho stana. Ne beri gajle ako ti vika tatkoti, ke razbere sho se stori.

btw kola to me is a muchka driven cart and not auto (zavto). Karro is of course from the english car from carrotsa/carriage etc which was pinched and twisted somewhere by latins from the old maco zahl, to be taken, hence kola, zola/zeola, zejl etc.

Dracevec is in Ireland now, but hes from Dracevo, 9km south of Skopje.

"Galiba" means "mozebi, bi trealo, ke da e"!

Where is tetoac on the map?

Tetovo is right by under Sar planina in the northwest of the country. As nice as this is, I wish we didn't have so many differences between our dialects. It just gives more reason for other neighboring countries to claim we're theirs or we're not a 'true' country.

What is the difference between 'kaj' 'kje' 'ke'? Are they just dialectal differences or not? We don't use any of these in my village so I'm very unfamiliar with them. Strange thing is, the villages that are closer to the downtown of Tetovo actually use 'ke'. I'm guessing many of those villages are a result of refugees from the 1920's of 'northern greece' Macedonia.
