They thought they will force us to sing our songs without words, so we will forget them...

Well too bad, we didn't forgot them. Here they are:

Our beautiful songs with Macedonian words:

I'm sure you know this one.

Now with the Macedonian (original) words:

Stani mome da zaigrash
da te gledam vesel jas,
Cifte, camce igrivo ---
nashe oro ubavo. 2h
O panina ninaj ninaj naj ---
ninanaj milo mome ninanaj 2h

Izvi mome snagata ti
tvojta snaga ubava,
da te gledam da pejam ---
oti samo ednash ziveam. 2h
O paninaninaj ninaj naj ---
ninanaj milo mome ninanaj. 2h

Samo ednash se zivee
novoj zivot lazoven,
dur sum sum ziv da se radvam --
i da umram da ne zalam. 2h
O paninaninaj ninaj naj ---
ninanaj milo mome ninanaj. 2h

My dear friend Makedonas,

To what lengths you will go...

The Greek singer Elefteria, Arvanitaki (Albanian?), sings a song Tourkiko (Turkish?)

No, it is not Greek, or Albanian or Turkish,

It is plain Macedonian: Opa nina, nina naj, milo mome, nina naj.

Nice performance though. I like it.

Sorry, its not originally sung by Arvanitaki, its originally sung by Kazantzidis & Marinella back in 1964...

Now, you show me how old your song is? Because I'm pretty sure its either Greek or Turkish:)

Makedonas...does it really matter about the measurements?
I recognize this song!
It was a favourite in my own family, due to the Turkish references.
It is a beautiful song either in Macedonian or in Greek, or whatever else it represents to anybody else. Sharing it and enjoying it, from all our unique perspectives and nationalities is more important in my opinion, than trying to prove that it belonged to purely one nationality...

I actually have a macedonian version of this song where they sing:

Cifte, camce igrivo ---
tursko oro ubavo

hm....

Judging to it´s style I have always thought that it originally was turskish...

Yes you are right, it is with Nikola Badev. I am at work now so I couldn´t check that detail.
When speaking about music I prefer the term borrowing instead of stealing  Musicians has always done that and will always do it.

I think you should all see the a documentary (can´t remember the title or the director right now) made by a bulgarian woman, some yrs ago, where she "follows" in the steps of a song that she heard when she was young. Always thinking it was bulgarian but finding it also in Turkey,Greece,Macedonia,BiH and Srbija. The emotions she stirred when she told the people that it indeed excisted in other countries also. Even being threatened (in Serbia, where else :D ) by violence when she told them that it was also present in Bosnia and considered a bosnian song there....very informative documentary indeed. I think one of the titles of the song is "Oj, Djevojko Anadolko"

Having had more time to think about this issue (on lunch now;o)): Many times it is borrowing. But in some cases it can also be in the context of a regime forbidding a language to be sung only allowing the melodies and eventually ending up putting the words of another language to the melody. In that case it is pretty much the case of stealing. (Notice how I treaded carefully here not pointing out any specific case  )

And by the way: Thanks for the link Makedonas to the greek version of this song. I´ll download it (if possible) when I get home from work.
This is really one of my favourites from the balkans (along with Fato mori) and it is only nice to see other versions of it :o)

Tonite? It´s a gruesome morning here in Sweden  But, very true, the only thing that gets me thru the working day is listening to this kind of music :D
