There is no such city as Solun. There is Thessaloniki, Greece which was named after the sister of Alexander the Great.

This is what the ancient Greeks called it 2400 years ago, a lot has changed since then. The city was called Salonica by the Franks and Solun by the local nations for many centuries, it was only renamed to Thessaloniki a few decades ago, after the Second Balkan War. Then the old population was ejected and Turkish Christians were imported to fill the city. These are new people with only two or three generations of history in the area.

Excuse me, but since when did the Macedonian name Thessaloniki become Greek name. It was the name of the daughter of Philip II the king of Macedonia, the king that was HEGEMON over the ancient city states mostly populatet by ancient Greeks. It was the name of the sister of Alexander III king of Macedonia (called latter the Great) who inherited the tittle HEGEMON over the ancient Hellenes, it was the name of the wife of Macedonian king Kasander, the king who ordered building of Macedonian city on the place of the ancient Greek colony (which had the fate of all Greek colonies on Macedonian soil sealed by Philip II) Therme, and gave the name Thessaloniki in honour of his wife.
So it is Macedonian name and should be used along with other names of this Macedonian city.

In all Slavic languages it is called Solun. It was so called in the oldest Slavic documents a thousand years ago.
