Hi everyone,

Lets see what the Greeks were learning at school before 1992.

The following map is from the geography book of the second class of the secondary shool:

From this book:

The old encyclopedias are more informative.
The encyclopedia "gia sas paidia": "For you children" was a mainstream one and widely advertized then.

In the topic about Yugoslavia this encyclopedia says:

Image

In the left coloumn it refers to the ethnic composition of Yugoslavia, where among Serbs, Croats, etc, were living then MACEDONIANS!

In the right coloumn it refers to the languages spoken in Yugoslavia where besides Serbian, Croatian and Slovenian was spoken the today non-existing MACEDONIAN.

Here are mentioned the components of the Yugoslavian federation. One of the federal republics is Macedonia again.

All the Greeks who are now older than 35 years old were learning this at school.

After 1992 all the books were revised.

Alkibiades you are a profet.

You showed the HYPOCRISY of the Greek politics.

This has to be send to the whore's (I mean EU) institutions which talk about the sensitivness of Grece's clitoris on such issues as Macedonian issue.

Nice post. Nice indeed.

Revising history is not such an easy job for the totalitarian countries any more. Because people remember. And even save the old school textbooks. Just in case.

Very nice indeed.

Welcome to our forum, and I wish you all the best.

Thanks to all of you. I thought that you were aware of the existence of such maps in the old Greek schoolbooks. And there are another 2-3 clear references.

Everyone in Greece who has graduated before 1992 surely had noticed in the textbooks that the southern part of Yugoslavia was mentioned as Macedonia.

From 1948 to 1992 Greece was recognizing Macedonia without any prejudices as a component of Yugoslavia.
But in 1992 started the lunatic era.

Alkiviades, are you joining us from Greece?

If you are perhaps you can help us understand how
your countrymen and women view this whole Macedonian issue.

Can we live as good neighbours?

2) Macedonians are not related with geographically close Greeks, who do not belong to the "older" Mediterranenan substratum...

Yes I am joining from Greece.

The relations between Greeks and Macedonians are currently in zero point.

If you want to be a good Greek patriot you will have to use a derogatory term for the Macedonians even if this is not your style, and this doesn't help the bilateral communication.

If you say "Macedonians" you offend the Greeks, and if you say "Skopianos" you offend the Macedonians. And if it is not your style to offend people what will you do? Simply you avoid referring to this case until it clarifies.
And this is mainstream attitude in Greece now.
The morons you meet around the web are a disgraceful but numerous minority who are obsessed by the idea that they are defeated and have become very pathetic. I understand them, their butt hearts.

But they do a lot of trouble.
Leave aside that I believe that they do not act on their own but they are mobilized by church organizations and base clubs of the ruling political party of Greece, and other radical groups.
For some of them at least this is obvious.

If you call a peoples with a name other than their self determination, or at least with a name that they don't like, you are a racist.
If you call a country with a name diffirent than its constitutional name you are again a racist.
So the Greeks will have to make up their mind, whatever their dirty little job might be.

Dobro dojde brate Alkiviades, excellent first impressions, you will not be forgotten here even if you don't post again such is the impcat you have made with those books, bravos.

Tell me Alki, if you don't mind me asking, I assume you are of a Macedonian background yourself(apologies if this is not the case), how's your command of the Macedonian language, and is it still widely spoken in Greece? One of members here, Risto the Great, recently came back from a holiday in Aegean Macedonia and said that it is dying out, can you give us some more information on it?

Kalimera Alkiviadi,

Good jod. It is a fact, that prior to 1992 (or better prior to 1988), there was an indeference about who is using the term "macedonia" and "macedonian". Not only in yours but also in my old encyclopaedias as well as in older ones, i have seen in the public library, the federal republic was mentioned as 'macedonia' , its people as 'macedonians' and its language as 'macedonian', regarding "Yugoslavia".
BUT in order to avoid any missguiding impressions and to give to the readers of this forum a more complete view about what "macedonia" meaned for the greeks at the time, please tell us what the above encyclopaedias are mentioning for the term "macedonia" (ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΙΑ).
If you are not able to scan again the requested pages, just let us know, how many pages the encyclopaedias are offering to "macedonia" and what they are reffering inside.
a) are they reffering to the "macedonian struggle" (μακεδονικος αγωνας)?
b) are they reffering to the "ellinikotita" of macedonia?
c) are they mentioning P. Melas, Karavaggelis, Strebeniotis, Kottas etc?

Thank you in advance

Xereto
Stefanos

Stefo, it looks pretty clear to me. It was Macedonia.
