Not sure if you can understand this ?

Η Ελλάδα αγαπά να κλέψει πολλούς μουσική πραγμάτων όχι μόνο. Πρέπει να έχουμε ένα νήμα μουσικής εδώ επίσης;

Greece loves to steal many things not just music. We need to have a music thread here as well?

Vodenka,
I have a friend whose family is from Ano Djoumagia (Blagoevgrad).

He used to say that back there, there were songs with the same music but in -3- languages :

Bulgarian, Greek and Turkish (alphabetic order).

So, who stole from whom ?
**********************************************************
My father used to sing a song about the 1908 Neo-Turkish Revolution:

"Βασιλεύ Σουλτάν Χαμίτι βάλε την υπογραφή,
ή το Σύνταγμα θα γένει ή η Πόλη θα χαθεί".

He said the song was sang in Turkish by the Turks, in Greek by the Greeks. The verses differed, the final meaning was the same.

Years ago, in the 60's, I saw a German movie with Maria Schell. An anti-war movie. In this movie, to my astonishment, I saw Bosnian men in Serajevo singing the same song in Serbian. I understood nothing of what they said, but the music was the same.

In the Balkans, there has been a cultural influence of one ethnic group to the other. It is very difficult to make distinctions of origin of songs in areas with multi-ethnic populations.

There is a major difference between Greeks and others that use same music. Greeks NEVER say the origins of the music or songs. They usually translate them into greek, they say "hellinika tragoudia" and they become theirs!!!!!

Those skirts the Macedonian men are wearing look awfully similar to the Albanian foustanella.

we should ignore then the rebadged kalamatiana sold to the ignorant listener as traditional macedonina music.

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad

I wonder whether this phenomenon occurs in areas outside the northern fringes of Melbourne?

The men are wearing very long shirts, that are tightened by the waist belt and make like small foldings. It is not a foustanella.

Thanks Vodenka.

To the untrained eye, the costumes are almost identical:

Traditional Macedonian dress:

Traditional Albanian dress:

Things are definitely much clearer now

Sorry I cannot, Bosnian. It cannot be found in CD or vinyll, I have never seen anything like that. It is a song 100 years old, or may be much more. I can sing it, I remember how my father sang it, but contrary to him I am a lausy singer ...

I do not know if a copy of this old movie can be found, "DIE LETZTE BRUECKE" = "THA LAST BRIDGE", starring Maria Schell.

One thing I do remember, in the Serbian verses the word "Serajevo" was heard.

Sorry to dissapoint you.

No, Bosnian, I am sorry. But part of the ryhm of this song was included years ago in a Greek song named the "Balkan Heritage".

I guess the singer was speaking in Serbobosnian, but the title and part of the description sounded to me as Turkish ("Balkan Havasi" : Hava = Air in Turkish).

Thanks and cheers.

Bosnian, News !

I googled "Die letzte Bruecke" and I found a lot. You can find it also, but almost everything is in German, that I understand. I do not know about you.

A site is
http://www.deutscher-tonfilm.de/dlb1.html

The film got many prizes, between them the Golden Palm of Cannes for Maria Schell.
It was filmed in the Neretwa river area and on the renowned bridge of Mostar, that was destroyed during the war of 1990's and rebuilt afterwards.

Unfortunately, there are no details about the music of the film.

Cheers, Andreas.
