The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) saluted Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski’s eloquent and forthcoming speech before the 66th United Nations General Assembly today.

“We are Macedonians, we speak Macedonian, and our country's name is the Republic of Macedonia,” declared Prime Minister Gruevski from the UN podium.

Finally! Macedonian government no longer hiding and no longer afraid to say it how it is.

This is excellent news for him to say what he said!

I hope the future holds even stronger statements, and stronger stances towards the injustice inflicted upon the Macedonian Nation, and the Macedonian people specifically. We need to have our voice heard - we need justice and freedom!

I can not deny that it was not a great speech but:

Changing the flag was a sign of weakness and he is trying to make Macedonia into a multiethnic state. Macedonia is for the Macedonians and those who wish to live with us can do so, we are not a federation but it seems that is the way we are headed.

Lavce, you do know that the flag was changed under another government, right? I'm sure you do, just clarifying.

As for the domestic politics, they're messy as usual. I think Gruevski has the right idea in mind, but "is forced" (nobody is forced, but they make these bad choices to stay in power) to make these compromises and please the Albanian politicians. If Macedonia is on the right economic path, believe me no albanian in the country will care about who is mayor, what land is in which municipality of any of that crap. Economic prosperity is all anyone needs.

This post is loaded. First and foremost someone from SDSM made a speech that included something that every Macedonian loved at the time - but this politician is now very adament about a name change - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beoPklvZ ... re=related

Macedonia changing the flag guaranteed that Macedonia would change the name. VMRO could reverse this now but it won't so SDSM or VMRO it doesn't make a difference because both weeds come from the same root.

It's funny how so many Macedonians are happy that Gruevski said this. Big deal. Crvenkovski said this (click the youtube link above) as well. And it didn't make Macedonia any better. Let Gruevski state that he will pull Macedonia out of the name negotiations. Then we will see something really happening.

Agreed, politicians saying things is basically bullcrap.

I can't speak for everyone, but for myself, I never believe a damn word Crvenkovski said anyways, so I still give Gruevski way more credit.

Credit for what ProMKD? For continuing to negotiate the country's name? Or by not pursuing the court cases against the Albanians who performed crimes against humanity in 2001? Gruevski is no better than Crvenko. He deserves no credit in my book.

I like that your stand point is honest and true, and you want what's best for our people. But in the world we live in today, we must pick between the lesser of two evils. Especially in the balkans. If I compare Gruevski to Crvenkovski, crvenkovski is -10, gruevski is +6.

Am I a political follower who picks based on party's ? No.
Am I idolizing Grujo? No.
Do I think he's doing enough? No, ofcourse not. None of them do.

Do I think he deserves more credit thank crvenkapa? Ofcourse, much more.

That's all I was trying to say.
