The Greek State has been able to point to elements of Hellenism in the Vlach or the Albanian to morph them into some kind of Greek, although clearly in this practice there are "grades of being Greek" so that those ethnic groups or individuals displaying a lesser disposition to adopt Hellenism are "impure Greeks" which kind of turns their ethnic origin on its head by suggesting that an Albanian or a Vlach, was somehow first a Greek [even though there is absolutely no evidence for it].

From a Greek point of view, the problem with the Macedonians was that they rejected Hellenism outright. So they dealt with us differently. Reason why Macedonians and Turks attract the deepest suspicion p.77
