Upon the proposal of DOM party leader Liljana Popovska, the Government is to declare 2008 the Year of Macedonian Literary Language. Scientific debates at home and abroad on the history, roots and development of language, strengthening of Macedonian instructorships worldwide and opening of new ones, courses in creative writing, scholarships for Macedonian language students, promotions and publishing of capital works in Macedonian and English languages represent only a part of the hundreds of events organized within the large campaign.
The project will include the country’s highest cultural and scientific institutions, such as the Macedonian Academy of Science and Arts, Macedonian Writers’ Association, institutes on Macedonian language, literature, folklore, national history, ministries of culture and education, Faculty of Philology “Blaze Koneski”, Macedonian diplomatic offices worldwide, under the Government’s auspices.
“Each nation has to preserve its language. Through the capital works and scientific gatherings in Macedonia and abroad, we will show through arguments the roots, past and development of the Macedonian language. The loss of a language equals the loss of identity, so all individuals and institutions should be actively engaged in its protection from future violent changes and influences. Of course, we will also promote abroad, because if the world is not aware of us, then it is as if we do not exist”, says Popovska.

Change the new language to reflect more of the dialects and get rid of the Serbianisms and Anglicisms. And give us back our proper alphabet.
