I understand that a relative of mine died fighting for the Ilinden uprising against the Turks, and I am wondering where I can find out the details of his death. Is that kind of information available anywhere?

Mate, don't think there is much recorded as the uprising was seen as more of a terrosit ploy than people taking liberty into their own hands. I have similar info about my relatives, my pred-dedo had his arm blown off for supporting Macedonia. The selo (Kochista) was pro Macodonia, they were in the hills, a "GreeK" from Lisolaj came during the night and burned down the selo, pretty crazy ha? From what I understand the Greek church paid people to be "Greek" and destroy and burn non-Greek stuff (i.e. selos) Go to Lisolaj now and if you find someone who knows 1 Greek word I will give you $1000. From what I understand being a Macedonain was hard work as you didn't know who to trust as neighbouring selos were sided with different sides.

What part of Macedonia are you from?

What do you expect when Grci from Athens came with big money financed by the Government of Greece, buying off some Macedonians and then threatening the whole village to convert to the Patriarchate church if they were Macedonians who were members of the Excharate church.
There was no, wait i'll think about it, people lived in fear, kid's women, old folk were killed right there and there full stop, how many Macedonians converted to Muslim under the threat of death? it's nothing different there either, that time was a time of uncertainty in Macedonia, VMRO couldn't have been everywhere.
