On another note, I seemed to pick up that Pavle Filipov got appointed by the Greek Government to some government job in Lerin. I am just wondering why the Greeks would do that. Filipov would be public enemy number one in Greece. I for one dont believe at all that the Greeks are extending an olive branch. Maybe they are trying to shut him up by throwing him a "few candy bars". I dont think Filipov should let his guard down.

Well Pavle is a friend of mine and I respect the GREAT work he does for ethnic Macedonians. I've never been a member of the party but other's have so I'm NOT the person to ask.

What do you think, should I call you Mladenov.gr? Is your name Stefo Mladenov ? Do you know dedo Tsarknias?

What's his cousins name ? Is he a member of the party ? Keep in mind things have changed in Greece a little but NO WHERE NEAR what it should be like.

ie. You can play Macedonian music and talk all you want, they will still take notes but who cares this is NORMAL to them in that country see "Paranoid".

There were ethnic Greeks in Macedonia. They mainly resided in the cities (Solun, Ber, Ser, Drama, Kozani, Katerini, Kavala). The whole area around Katerini was inhabited by Greek speaking christian orthodox people, Vlachs and Turks.

Suhin, just so I understand you more clearly, what do you mean by 'ethnic Greeks' here.

I refer to the mid 19th cebtury. By saying ethnic Greeks I mean Greek speaking Orthodox people.
There were also some Greek speaking Muslims.
To me language is a sign of origin.

But there are still people talking Macedonian (most of them are olf people) in the villages of Kajlar/Ptolemaida (the city itself was mainly inhabited by Turkish people), villages of Solunsko(Kufalovo/Kufalia, Ajvatovo/Liti, Visoka/Osa, Suho/Sohos and some others). A few villages in Ser/Serres, and some more in Drama (Plevna/Petrusa is one for sure).

Do you mean that the Greek government tried to change the name of your village back to Nevoleni and the Grkmani protested against it?
When did this took place?
PS. Buf is called now Akritas/Bufi (Ακρίτας/Μπούφι).
Αll the villages are still called by their old names by both Dopii and Prosfyges.

Voskopoulos Ioannis (Yannis) is the elected prefect of the prefecture of Florina. Prefecture is a larger area than municipality which has a mayor ahead. He belongs to the Nea Dimokratia party he was the candidate of it. Some saying that he is a cousin of Pavlos Voskopulos.

Renaming names of villages, streets and placenames is exclusive right and responsibility of the local authorities (municipality) with a decission taken by majority from the city council. Absolutely nothing to do with government. Government has no word on it.

Yes they (government) tried to change it (1992) so it wouldn't sound ethnic Macedonian (Skopje). The people got VERY ANGRY
and said the ONLY OTHER NAME we will accept is Nevoleni, Florina.

The government said we'll keep keep it Skopia then.

Skopia in Greek means "to guard" ;)

Wrong again. The govt has nothing to do with Skopia or any other village name. Probably some members of the city council or the mayor it self proposed the renaming and the rest members of the city council get angry and it caused a conflict. Thats all.

OK so the Grkomani of Skopia tried to change it and LOST the vote. That's even BETTER for us.

Stefanos, you are right. By the new law renaming names of villages, streets and placenames is exclusive right and responsibility of the local authorities (municipality) with a decission taken by majority from the city council. Absolutely nothing to do with government. Government has no word on it, as you wrote. Do you know that this is not applied for Macedonian villages and cities? In 2006 a decision in the Municipality of Voden passed that a street in the new city's suburb would have been named after our Resistance Heroine Irini Gkini (Mirka Ginova, in Macedonian). This was a desire of the majority of the Voden inhabitants. The problem is that, in a complete unlawfully manner, the Periferiarhis (who is appointed and not elected) had blocked the decision with no explanation. Do not kid yourself, Stefanos, that we are living in an European Democratic country, because it is not so and I can prove this, in many occasions!

hmm... very interesting. Do you have any references on it? It is for me somehow hard to belive that the majority of Edessa's city council would make such proposal.
PS: and a minor correction. The law about the authority of renaming is now "new". It is in use at least for decades.
