This post misrepresents the ancient Macedonians and their language. One could post just as many quotations countering the views above.

MDF, you've posted a propaganda piece, some of the claims above are laughable.

The best your philhellenes can do is claim that latter day ancient Macedonians lived in a Hellenistic environment or that some were greek by their cultural upbringing.

Would it be possible for you to also list quotations from these eminent authors wherein they claim that today's Greek-speaking Turkish Christians and Arvanovlach are the descendants of the ancient Macedonians? I'll bet you can't. That's because it's much easier to misrepresent the ancient past than the recent past.

Quote:
The political and military leaders of the Slavs of Macedonia at the turn of the century seem not to have heard Misirkov's call for a separate Macedonian national identity;they continued to identify themselves in a national sense as Bulgarians. L Danforth

This statement misrepresents Macedonians, most Macedonians may have sided with the Bulgarians at the turn of the last century but they didn't view themselves as ethnic Bulgarians. You keep stumbling across this in the literature.

You are not the first nor will you be the last to post these quotes, and if you want our opinion on them it has already been discussed.

We're not in the least bit in denial, we've just gone through your bullshit type of propaganda so many times it puts us to sleep.

The ancient Macedonians were considered distinct from the ancient Greeks. The royal house eventually became progressively Hellenised, but the distinction between Greek and Macedonian remained both in language and in culture.

Why are you discussing the ancient Macedonians and the ancient Greeks? Why don't you get with reality and explain to us how the Arvanites, the Vlach, the Macedonians, Bulgarians, Turks, Venetians, and others became modern-day Hellenes? And what is the connection between these people, the Turkish Chrisitans and the ancient Greeks?

Go ahead, explain, and cite your sources.

But the Muslims in the independent part of Macedonia don't fake their ethnic heritage like the Arvanite, Vlach, Slavs and Turkish Chrisitians do in new Greece. Our Vlach are still Vlach, like their ancestors, as are the Albanians, Turks, and others.

I find it intersting that you strain to prove the ancient Macedonians were 'Hellenic' and spoke a 'Hellenic' language. We know almost nothing about the ancient Macedonian language, but we do now it was a barbarian tongue unintelligible to the Greeks to the South. Then we have the distinction between the Macedonian royal house and the rank and file Macedonian, whose ethnic heritage and mother tongue was probably different.

Don't play in the world of 2500 years ago, it has nothing to do with the Greek speaking Turkish Christians that inhabit the South Balkans today.

The strongest argument against the connection with ancient macedonia is simply the fights and arguments amongst the people in this forum as well as back home. Who needs Greeks when we can't agree to a single story.

I don't think we all need to be attatched at the hip with eevry aspect of our history. That's what braiwashed people do. That's what modern "greeks" do. They are programmed drones. We are not.
