The discussion in Any Artists out there has made me want to go to the polls. Mods please create a poll for "Who is the greatest Macedonian of all time"..

I think the list should include:

Goce Delcev
Phillip II
Alexander the Great
Jane Sandanski
Nikola Karev
Dame Gruev
Pitu Guli
Metodija Andonov Cento
Krste Petkov Misirkov
Tsar Samuil

Please do not suggest adding people like Vaska Ilieva or Tose Proeski or Nikola Gruevski.

Anyway i don't think this title can go to any one person. Many deserve it, many contributed to the Macedonian people in their own ways.

Goce Delcev did more for the Macedonian people than Alexander. Goce had no interest in conquering anything, all he ever wanted was his peoples freedom.

I think you will find with the older Generation that Goce Delcev is worth a thousand Alexander's.

I honestly cant choose, mabye seperate them into groups? For example like VMRO/Anicent/Medieval.. etc.

Yeah they can also be added. I think it will be out of Goce Delcev, Alexander and Phillip but it would be interesting to see how many votes the other Macedonians get.

I think mine would be Dedo Iljo Maleshevski. I find it amazing that he thought in wars and batles all of his life, and that he even thought in one batle when he was 82!

I also like Pitu Guli's story as well, unlike the other members of VMRO who were educated and had a good standard of living, Pitu was a "ordinary" man who did not have a education and came from a poor back ground. Yet he never sold his sould to the ottomans by converting to islam, or never took greek, bulgarian, serbian, and for his case, Romanian money and change his beliefs and nationality.

I think that we will make this a yearly poll and keep it active for the remainder of the month of February. We make these polls so often that it begins to lose its luster. So now this will officially be the Maknews 2009 poll of who YOU think the greatest Macedonian of all time is. Sorry I couldn't add anymore 10 is the limit.This will be on the front page of the website soon so choose carefully people.

Fact of the matter is without Alexanders achievement more than 2000 years ago, our name would have probably disappeared forever and we would most likely be called something else. Thanks to him our name and subsequently nation has survived, all you have to tell someone that has not heard of Macedonia before is tell them that it is the land of Alexander the Great and immediately they understand and show great respect.

How could have Cento been overlooked?

I'm surprised that Cento, the first President of the modern republic is not there.

I mean, the President of the Krusevo Republic, Nikola Karev, is there...

We're also missing Alexandrov, Mother Teresa, Climent i Naum, Karposh, and Brat Ljube. Maybe next year folks.
