Letter to the Macedonian Ambassador
Re: Pan-Macedonian Racism in the United States

Your Excellency, Ambassador Nikola Dimitrov,
As an American citizen of Macedonian origin I am
writing to convey my disappointment with the Macedonian embassy’s
failure to react to the recent resolutions passed by the states
of Illinois, California, Missouri and soon to be passed by
the states of Texas and New Hampshire.
The Pan-Macedonian Association, a Greek ultra-nationalist
group functioning outside Greece, is involved with promoting
these
resolutions among its sympathizers in various state legislatures.
The resolutions purport to claim that Macedonians are Greek and
that the history of Macedonia has been Greek for three thousand
years.
My reason in writing this letter is to ask you,
your Excellency, why has the Macedonian embassy failed to react
publicly regarding
this important issue? Is there a policy stating that the embassy
cannot interfere with such matters unless they involve or mention
the name Republic of Macedonia? Isn't that what your secretary,
Zoran Dukic, told me when I contacted the embassy last year regarding
the State of Illinois resolution?
What are the duties of an ambassador? These resolutions
slander the dignity of Macedonians
and negatively affect Macedonian-American
relations.
Official United States policy is to remain
neutral on this matter, therefore, these resolutions
in various state
legislatures
conflict with US policy towards Macedonia and its
people. I would suggest it is the job of your embassy
to bring this matter to the attention of the relevant
parties in the US Department of State.
I want to say that as Macedonia's ambassador
to the United States you need to stand up and protect the
dignity of all Macedonians and stop hiding behind some diplomatic
double-speak.
Thank you for your attention and I hope the
embassy will take immediate action on this matter before further
damage is caused.
Sincerely,
Metodija A. Koloski
