Jim Anton Dies at Age 63
After a short illness Macedonian patriot
and activist,
Jim Anton, passes away on October 9, 2007

Jim was born on August 1st, 1944, in the village of Peshoshintsa,
Aegean Macedonia. His parents were Trenda and Laze Geshevi.
In 1950, destiny brought his family to Australia when he was only
6 years old. Jim discovered his Macedonian identity at a very early
age, which prepared him for his journey as a great Macedonian activist
destined to gain the respect of all Macedonians.
In 1967, he married Alexo and Lena Sideropoulos' daughter and
that same year his daughter, Margaret, was born. His son Done (Tony)
was born in 1969 and Philip was born in 1971.
From his daughter Margaret he has two grandchildren, Chantal and
Daniel. From his son Philip he has Aaron and Andriel. From Tony
he has Zhara, who was living in Macedonia and rushed back to see
him during his illness. Zhara, with her beautiful smile, brought
happiness to Jim in his last painful days.
Jim was always active in the Macedonian community. His most notable
activities included: His tenure as vice-president (and great supporter)
of the Macedonian football club, Preston Macedonia, first president
of the Human Rights Committee for Macedonians in Melbourne, and
vice president of the Federation of the Macedonian Associations
in Victoria.
His accomplishments also include organizing a visit for Macedonian
activists from Aegean Macedonia and Australia to Strasburg. Let
us say there was no activity for the Macedonian cause where Jim
was not at the forefront as either an organizer or a contributor.
The Macedonian cause, Macedonia and Macedonian ideals were the
main preoccupations and interests in Jim's life. Unfortunately,
his
illness took him away from them and from his family when he
passed away on the morning of October 9th, 2007.
Jim's burial took place on October 12th, which left us poorer
by his loss. His contribution as an activist touched everyone,
his kindness, spirit and dedication to the Macedonian national
cause will not be forgotten.
May you rest in peace Jim Anton.
